April is here and I am sure you must be witnessing beautiful flowers blooming everywhere!
This weekend I went to see the Cherry Blossom Festival here in Washington, D.C. It was such a rejuvenating experience. The flowers were at their best! Here is a glimpse of the beautiful blooms.

Today, I am introducing you to the next series in “Sketch On Saturday”. Since it’s the spring season, I thought of adding a splash of color in our sketchbook. The next 10 weeks we are going to explore the world of “fruits” in watercolor, here on my blog.
Each Saturday will bring with it a new fruit study. The module consists of 10 fruits (one for each Saturday), and I have designed it in a strategic way. We will start with an easy fruit and progress our way up to the difficult ones. This will help you get used to the medium gradually.
Also, do not forget this is a sketchbook series and sketches are a bit looser than a painting. Hence, do not get overwhelmed with the process at all. I want you to find your sketching style during this process.
No matter how accurately I demonstrate my method, you will surely come up with a style of your own. Which is for your own good. After all, who wants to look the same as others? You definitely want to stand out.
As far as the materials are concerned I am suggesting some basic supplies for the classes below.
The individual colors used will be stated with each tutorial.
The recommended materials are:
1. A watercolor sketchbook/ sketchpad (140lb, 300gm)
2. A bowl of water
3. A soft tissue for blotting
4. A set of watercolor paints (tubes or blocks)
5. A palette to mix colors
6. A tissue roll to dab excess paint from brush
7. A masking tape to secure sheet on a drawing board
8. Round watercolor brushes in size 0, 3, and 6 – do not worry if you have brushes in size one above or below! This is merely for an idea. Feel free to sketch with the materials you have in handy.
9. HB pencil for drawing
10. Eraser
